Clemson UNC Asheville advance with victories

Clemson moving on to the NCAA Tournament second round with No. 5 seed West Virginia on Thursday in Tampa. Asheville were to win NCAA tournament games, there was no time to celebrate. Clemson defeated Alabama-Birmingham 70-52 in the first round of the NCAA tournament Tuesday.

Jerai Grant said: "Rest is going to be a big factor for us." "We'll do the best we can to put a plan together and try to execute," said coach Brad Brownell. Jerai Grant scored a career-best 22 points and the fast-starting Tigers built a double-figure lead and never backed off in beating Alabama-Birmingham 70-52 on Tuesday. Clemson won’t have much time to enjoy its first victory in the tournament since 1997.

Pitt is the No. 1 seed in the Southeast Region. UNC Asheville pulled it out with a tournament-worthy performance by its best player. The Bulldogs led for only 51 seconds in regulation, before Dickey asserted himself. Bozeman said: "Dickey made some big plays coming off ball screens." Johnson had six points, seven assists, four rebounds, two steals and six turnovers before leaving the game. Clemson consistently pounded the ball into its big men in the first half, scoring 28 points in the paint and skipping the option of shooting from the outside.
